The Harsh Duty of Converter Hoods and Flue Ducts
Converter hoods and flue ducts face flue gas at 1100-1400 C (up to 1600 C) loaded with sulfur compounds, high-temperature slag and lime dust. The 20-gauge low-carbon steel tube water walls suffer erosion, acid corrosion and oxidation, leading to bamboo-joint thermal fatigue cracks, pitting and water leakage that cut steelmaking productivity.
Our Three-Layer Composite Coating
Based on domestic and international experience we developed a three-layer composite supersonic electric arc sprayed coating. Field service on converter hoods and power plant boilers proves service life beyond three years.
Why Supersonic Arc Spraying
- Low cost and high deposition efficiency
- Bond strength higher than other spray processes
- Ceramic powder can be cored into the wire to improve erosion resistance
Compared with spray welding, the process is easier to execute, lower in cost and avoids distortion of the water wall tubes.
