Forage harvester blades wear out fast because they cut through crop that carries sand and soil. Once the edge rounds over, cutting quality drops, fuel consumption rises and the blades have to be changed in the middle of harvest.
We plasma spray a tungsten carbide based coating along the cutting edge. The coating is far harder than the hardened steel underneath, so the edge keeps its geometry for far longer - typically several times the life of an uncoated blade.
The same treatment is used on plough shares, mower blades, mixer paddles and other agricultural wear parts. Sample quantities are welcome.
